Drawbacks:
1. Coatings are relatively thin and porous; they are permeable to gases, vapors (in particular, for hydrogen sulfide, hydrogen and water vapor). (Coatings are also permeable to liquids, such as sulfuric acid, when pinholes occur).
2. Due to the permeability of coating, bacteria under the coating on the concrete surface have a free access to oxygen, hydrogen sulfide, water vapor, and other nutrients.
3. As a result, the bacteria colonize under the coating, and generate sulfuric acid that corrodes the concrete.
4. The coating breaks away from the corroded concrete surface.
5. Destruction of the concrete substrate continues.
